North Birmingham - May Newsletter
May time brings our Audax and details are below. There are 2 presentations at the Richard Cooper Rooms Shenstone 2nd May - A talk from Steve Price about “Fitness for Cycling” followed on the 16th May a slide show from John Bedford “Trail Ridge” venture into the American Rockies.
Saturday 29th April our Club hosted our first “Charity Cycle Cafe” we opened the doors at the Richard Cooper Rooms to let members of Macmillan Cancer Support supply the catering.
After expenses I am pleased to inform you all that Macmillan Cancer Support made a profit of £270.
Thank you everyone for a Great Morning. The feedback that I have received has been very favourable so we hope to schedule another of these in the next rides list.
Summer is knocking on our door and I'm sure many of us are looking forward to re-instating our tan lines! Our new club jerseys are perfect for the summer and many of our riders have commented that it is nice to see the identity that it gives to our club when a number of us are wearing them. These remain available, please contact Sally Wheelwright to order yours.
Tuesday 2nd May
Carry On Cycling:- Steve Price coaching and fitness, a talk about maintaining fitness for cycling.
Saturday Rides:- The Trial to start our rides at the Jamboree Stone starts this month.
At our committee meetings we discussed that starting inside the park, rather than at the gates would
a) prevent any issues with motorists (there have been some complaints)
and
b) provide a more central location that may encourage other cyclists to join us
As you will note on the rides list the two starts at either end of the park are being moved from the Gates to the Jamboree Stone (JS) for a trial period starting in May.
I hope you will support us during this trial period, as the saying goes, “if we always do what we've always done, we'll always be what we've always been”. Lets see how it goes folks and let us know how you find it.

The Club Jumble Sale -
A message from Alison Readman
A big thank you to everyone who supported the club jumble sale in early March in any way, whether by donating items, helping set up the hall, manning the club table, helping with the catering or by coming along on the day. Special thanks go to Ros and John Llewellyn who took over the catering at short notice. The event would not have been a success without this collective effort for which I am very grateful.
I am pleased to report that we raised over £775 for club funds, £112 more than last year. Like last year, two bikes were donated and they together swelled the profits by more than £200. Many thanks to Nick Madeley and to someone else whose name I didn’t catch for donating them. We found afterwards that we had a surplus of tyres that are bulky to store – they were donated to three charities that recycle bikes for people who need them to get to work or to start cycling.
Just as importantly, the numbers of people attending rose considerably and a number of people commented on how much they enjoyed the jumble. Two of the traders said it was their favourite event.
The 2018 jumble will be held on Saturday 3 March. Put the date in your diaries!
Alison
And on behalf of the club thank you Alison for organising this years Club Jumble.
