North Birmingham - April Newsletter
April is here and the start of the Summer program on the rides list, both the interactive and PDF copies can be found on our WEB Site.
An incorrect “Rides List” for the coming quarter was briefly in circulation this had a “Green Banner”, if you have one of these please ignore it; the correct “Rides List” has a “Red Banner”.
Or use our Web site.
Saturday Rides:- There has been a suggestion made (and as we're an accomodating bunch we thought we'd give it a go) to start our rides at the Jamboree Stone in order to ease the congestion when there are a large number of riders. As you will note on the rides list the two starts at either end of the park are being moved from the Gates to the Jamboree Stone (JS) for a trial period starting from May. We're not triggering article 50 on the other gates just yet and the new start will be reviewed before the next rides list is published, so have your say and let a committee member know how you find it.
Saturday 29th April “The North Birmingham Cycling Cafe” Cooper Rooms, Shenstone.
All Saturday Rides will finish at the Cafe where the kind people from Macmillan Cancer Support are catering for us and all proceeds will go straight to our local Macmillan group.
Sunday Rides:- Remember that the start time has changed to 9.30am for the Summer period.
Curry night:- Monday 24th April. 8.00pm at Mango Spice, 6a Hill Village Rd, Mere Green.
Monday Evening “Sizzling Meal Deal” £10.95pp, Papadom & Chutney, any Starter, any Main Dish, Rice or Plain Nan + Chefs Complimentary dish.
Bring your own Bottle of wine or Bottled Beer only (No Cans).
Details and booking please contact Sally Wheelwright on 0121 378 2814 j.wheelwright@sky.com
The WEB Site:- There is an “Interactive Rides List” on our WEB Site, If you Click on the day you are querying and scroll down you should find details of the ride(s) for that day.
Access can be given to the ride organisers to add or change details of each day's rides for any reason. Either change the destination (except Saturdays), add cafe stop or even cancel a ride due to the weather etc.
There is the facility for the Leader to add Garmin route details so riders can download it to their GARMINs before setting off. Get in touch for details.
The Audax 7th May We are still requiring some help at various times throughout the day and here's a BIG REQUEST for anyone who is prepared to supply some cakes for the finish at Shenstone.
If you can help please contact:-
Matt Hinkley on 01922 458697 or admin@northbirminghamcycling.uk
“The Pub Ride” Following the popularity of the Summer Wednesday evening rides last year, these will restart May 3rd. The details of the destination will be arranged on our facebook page and confirmed on the Interactive Rides list but the starts will be as last year at the Jamboree Stone at 7:00pm and the 'round trip' is approx. 25 miles, don't forget your lights. The Pace is steady and no one is left behind.
Coming up:- Tuesday 16th May

Doors open at 8.00 pm, slideshow commences at 8.30 pm.
‘Trail Ridge – the ultimate cycle ride in the American Rockies at 12,183 ft’
This is the tale of our second venture into the American Rockies where we took the highest continuous paved road in America, between Grand Lake and Estes Park.
Urgent Request for Help
We are currently looking for a number of people to host French couples between 20th and 25th May. There is opportunity for those hosting to return to France next year. A number of fellow CTC members currently host and have recently visited St Georges, Burgundy, France.
Little Aston has been twinned with St Georges since 1981 and some of the original members are still involved, both here and in France.
The group will arrive on Saturday, 20th May in the early evening. Sunday is free with the family until the soirée at 7pm ( 4 course meal with drinks and entertainment at Fairlawns £37.50 each for the English). Trips have been organised for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. They will need to be taken to the village hall each morning and collected each evening. Times are still to be confirmed. You will be expected to provide breakfast and evening meals. A picnic will be needed for Tuesday and the return journey.
We usually go to France sometime in May. We travel by coach on the Saturday, arriving in the evening. We then spend Sunday with the family and are then taken on visits on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home on the Thursday. There is always a special meal with entertainment, usually on the Sunday.
If you can assist or would like further information please feel free to ring me on 0121 308 0138
Many thanks
Geoff & Anne Howle
