APOLOGIES
Tony Wilson, Sheila Child, Sarah Hinckley.
Matt apologised in advance for a disjointed AGM. The Secretary, Pete Farrell resigned very recently due to
personal problems and it was too late to cancel the AGM. Matt will ensure that we do not encounter the same
problem next year in relation to lack of reports.
MATTERS ARISING FROM 2016 AGM
· Peter Goodman stated that there should be a paper copy of the minutes.
· John Bedford mentioned that the First Aid Course did not take place this year and feels that this is
important as some members need to update their certificates.
· John Bedford highlighted the fact that we had not yet paid the Air Ambulance the sum of £100. A vote was
taken and it was decided that the Club would donate £200 and Paul Griffiths said that this would be paid
when he was able to do so with regard to signing cheques. Beryl Bedford was concerned about which Air
Ambulance group the Club had chosen to donate to. Ian Bolton confirmed this to be The North Warwickshire.
ANNUAL REPORT
Matt wrote and read out the report in the absence of Pete Farrell.
37 members attended the AGM last year.
Our cycling club offers 16 rides to choose from each week and about 100 participate on the rides each week.
The rides cover a good range of speeds from the slow rides on Saturday morning at about 9 mph average
speed to the fast group at about 19 mph. We are still short of volunteers and most rides would benefit from
new ride leaders.
Thank you to the day organisers and ride leaders for their hard work in arranging their programmes.
Thanks also to Chris Jones for putting all the information together for the rides list.
Nick Madeley has continued to organise some MTB/off road rides and the current Programme can be
obtained from Nick.
A number of Wednesday evening rides are held throughout the Summer starting from Sutton Park and
stopping at a local pub these have proven to be popular and will start again next summer.
Alison Readman once again organized our annual Jumble Sale in March at Erdington which raised valuable
funds for the club. Thanks to Alison for her hard work in organising this event
Roy Bishop and Terry Dwyer organized our annual Audaxes in May and the day was very successful. We
were lucky with the weather and there were about 200 riders on the day. The event has provided a major
boost to club funds. It was a long day, the first riders were waiting at the door when I arrived at 6.30am and
we locked up at 10:10 after the last riders had been fed and watered. Thank you to Terry and Roy for all
their hard work in organising another successful event and to Nadine and Sarah who kept the riders
supplied with refreshments during the day at the club house and kept me busy.
In June - 6 of our members along with 5 members from the Walsall Club enjoyed a tour at the Dieppe Raid
thanks to Mike Eades for organising that trip.
Dave Frost once again organised our Barbecue In July this year at the Colvile Arms Lullington and it
continues to be a popular event. Thank you Dave for your work on this event.
In August we had our own 100 mile ride. There was a morning stop at Spiders Web Cafe as the ride headed
West to Cheswardine'. We are grateful that the event was again organized by Gale and Tony Tibbins.
Fortunately the weather was good, which helped to make the day very enjoyable.
In August some of our members went to Brittany on a cycling trip organized by Ian Bolton. They stayed at
Mou'lin Conan Farmhouse and completed a number of hilly rides. This trip proves to be popular every year
and details have already been published for 2018
In September another joint ride organised by Boldmere Bullets took place involving riders from the Bullets,
North Birmingham CUK , CC Giro and Birchfield CC. A couple of hundred people took part, it just goes to
show how popular cycling is in the local area
Last Christmas we had our usual Christmas lunch at Wishaw Golf Club organised by Ros Llewellyn, This
year the date has been booked for 25th November, again at Wishaw Golf Club at a cost of £14. If you would
like to attend please contact Ros Llewellyn as she is still taking bookings.
We have also enjoyed both a Chinese and and Indian evening in December and April which were well
attended.
Two Charity Cycling Cafes that have been organised with invites sent out to local Clubs, these have been
very popular with a healthy amout raised for Macmillan Cancer Support..
In addition to the rides organised for club members by club members, many of our riders have taken part in a
variety of different rides this year including the St Giles Charity Ride, London Prudential 100, Birmingham
Velo and Audaxes of varying distances to name a few.
Our email address is admin@NorthBirminghamCycling.uk where members can contact the committee.
I have produced newsletters for 11 out of the last 12 months and I'd like to thank anyone who has contributed
articles and information.
Our website is still being up-dated and changed at the moment which is proving difficult due to clashes with
Time. Hopefully we will be able to remedy this shortly.
The North Birmingham Garmin and Strava groups both have healthy numbers of our members and some
members have used this as a means of communication, such as giving prior information and advertising
forthcoming rides. It is always nice to receive kudos on Strava for a ride you have completed.
The elected Committee of nine has had four meetings during the year, with an average attendance of six.
The Committee agreed once again that if the BBC weather forecast is 4 degrees or below at the time of the
ride, the official club ride should be cancelled. However, there are occasions when the weather is dry and it is
safe to ride when the temperature is below 4 degrees. Therefore, individual members are free to make their
own arrangements.
We have introduced the new club jersey. Sally Wheelwright has ordered various sizes of the new design
which members are able to buy.
Dave Frost has also organised mudguard extensions which members are able to buy.
The Clubroom continues to be open every first and third Tuesday of the month and all members are welcome
to attend.
TREASURERS REPORT
· Paul Griffiths stated that he is not able to carry out the function of Treasurer as he is not a recognised
signatory on the Club account. We owe money to the Cooper Rooms. Paul is unable to produce a set of
accounts. Javed Akhtar resigned in February 2017. Sally Wheelwright, supported by Pete Farrell, agreed to
take on the position of Treasurer temporarily, and they had been unable to hand over to Paul by the end of
September. Matt handed over the cheque book, paying in book, and statements. A bank signing mandate
was completed and address changed. There are missing bank statements. Matt and Sally signed the
mandates at the last committee meeting. Invoices for jerseys have not been passed on. Matt is not a
signatory on the
account. Javed Akhtar, Ian Bolton, Pete Farrell and Sally Wheelwright are signatories.
· Lloyds Bank returned the signing mandate to Javed because Sally`s signature did not match. Sally
resigned today. The cheque book is missing.
· Statement balance at end of September 2016 was £5631.71
· Statement balance at end of September 2017 was £3474.58 plus £760 in cash and cheques totalling
£4234.58
· The fall in the balance is due to unsold jerseys less the stock. There is a significant stock of unsold jerseys
and a lot of members have not received their orders.
· £611.32 was raised by the jumble sale and thanks was given to Alison Readman .
· We will miss the deadline to receive £200 from Head Office.
· Paul Griffiths made everyone aware that the signing authorities could only be dealt with at Lloyds Bank
Head Office and not at local branches.
· Lesley Pymm thanked Paul for his efforts under difficult circumstances.
· Paul told the Club that Father Christmas would be visiting The Cooper Rooms on 2nd December and could
we donate a prize. The Club agreed on an Evans £50 voucher.
· It was decided that those members providing refreshments at the Cooper Rooms on Tuesday evenings
would be self-accounting and not hand over money to the Treasurer.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS
· The Cyclists Carol Service is to be held on 17/12/17 at 1pm in St Lawrence Church, Meriden.
· David Dilly asked the Club if we have a constitution. Matt replied that he would put a copy on the website
and post a copy to anyone who did not have internet access.
· John Bedford contacted Cycling UK to obtain a link for the Policy Document. Matt said that a new one was
brought out in October 2017.

the link.

Matt will ask for a volunteer in the next Newsletter.
· Matt suggested that the Rides List could simply show the date and meeting place. John Bedford
commented that information showing the leader and destination is important because there is a danger of
visiting the same place too often. Ian Bolton and Sue Jinks also agreed that paper copies of the Rides List
are necessary.
· Ian Bolton raised the point that younger people are not coming forward to fill posts. How do we get younger
members involved with the Club other than just riding with us?
· Mick Noble wished to thank the committee for working in difficult conditions and said that the rides are very
popular and that numbers are growing.
