North Birmingham – September Newsletter
Well I don't know about you but I'm currently sitting out a thunderstorm in Provence (south of France) waiting for the sun to shine so I can get back out on my bike. With a bit of luck we will have a dry Autumn so we can continue to enjoy our countryside in the way we know best.

The Club 100
After missing last year's ride, I was thoroughly looking forward to going 'West to Cheswardine', its a really nice ride and it makes a change to go somewhere different. What a great day we had. There were 4 groups setting off first thing – an 8 hour and 3 ten hours, the 7 of us in our group were aiming for about 8.5 – 9 hours. After a breakfast stop at the Spiders Web we picked up an 8th member, fixed a puncture(the only 'mechanical' we had all day) and continued on. We were lucky with the weather conditions, warm, dry with only a light breeze, perfect. Matt drove (dragged?!) us along at a good pace for us and eight and a half hours later our group of happy (if not a little tired) cyclists rolled up to the Cooper Rooms and were supplied with drinks, pizza and cake – just what we needed after our long ride. Thanks to Tony and Gail for organising another great day we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Request for ride leaders
Following the request in last month's newsletter, we haven't received any offers of people being willing to take on the role of a ride leader. It isn't a difficult task, and there are plenty of experienced ride leaders who will be more than prepared to show you the ropes. If anyone would like to become a ride leader, then please get in touch. Most days and rides would benefit from new leaders.
Summer rides Sutton Park start point trial
Feedback has been mixed, slightly more positive than negative but most members have supported us during this trial period and we thank you for this. The original idea of the trial was to aim to have a more centralised starting point for all groups which could potentially lead to interest from others who see us meeting regularly and avoid clogging up the gates by moving us away from car access points. For the Autumn/Winter rides list the start points will revert back to the traditional gate points. A feedback request in the form of a short survey will be sent out soon to all members and we would be grateful, if you are a Saturday rider, if you could complete and return it in order that we can collate the feedback.
The Cafe
As mentioned in the previous newsletter our next Cafe at the Cooper Rooms will be 23rd September. The format has been revised slightly in line with comments received following the last Cafe and we hope that again, Macmillan will see it as a successful event. Even if you aren't cycling on that day but wish to pop in for a chat, coffee and bacon roll/cake, please feel free to come along.
Club apparel
Club Jerseys, there are still a few left in various sizes please get in touch with Sally for Enquiries,
The next phase is being discussed either rain jackets or long sleeve jerseys?
Social
We are looking into a Chinese meal as our next Social evening details to follow.
Brittany 2018 – Message from Ian Bolton
I have booked the 2018 trip to Moulin Conan in Brittany for the week Wednesday 11 – Wednesday 18 July 2018.
A minimum of 10 people (maximum 15) are needed to make the trip viable;5 people have expressed an interest already.
It is too early for specific prices as yet but they are unlikely to be much more than this year, although as there may be new owners of Moulin Conan, there may be some differences.
Prices this year were £412.00 per person, based on B&B and return ferry to Brittany. Evening meals, packed lunches and liquid refreshments are about £15.00 per day( usually a little less).
If the outward crossing is at night ,a cabin( this year £50 a double berth) or reclining chair (£5) must be booked. This is extra, as is a small sum for diesel for the minibus as we are picked up and returned to Sutton Coldfield.
A £100 non-refundable deposit secures a place: at the moment, only expressions of interest are required.
Details of Moulin Conan,Plougras,Guerlesquin,Brittany (about 20 miles SE of Morlaix) may be found at www.brittanybreaks.co.uk.
Please contact me on 0121-384-5647 or 07779470786 for more details.
